Diversity and Belonging
As a world-focused learning community, Avenues acknowledges and celebrates diversity in all its forms, while embracing pluralism and approaching difference with curiosity. Above all, we strive to foster an inclusive culture where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Connecting across difference
In our mission statement, we pledge to graduate students who are at “ease beyond their borders”; that is, students who have the cultural competencies necessary to engage with and serve in communities other than their own. Whether those borders are defined by race, culture, physical ability, socio-economic background, gender, sexual orientation or any other measures of identity, Avenues fosters an environment where students learn to connect across differences—both in and out of the classroom.
Fostering inclusion and upholding pluralism
Our diversity framework guides our efforts to cultivate an inclusive community where every individual is valued and respected.
Our community fast facts
Our campus community of students, teachers, leaders and staff reflects and embodies the diversity of the great city we call home.

“When we talk about diversity, we’re talking about navigating difference. Some differences are visible, and some are beneath the surface. We are all constantly navigating differences with others around us. To do that well, we need cultural competence. We need to communicate across lines of difference. We need generosity of spirit from every member of the Avenues community.”
